Dr. Joseph Pazona is a board-certified urologist with over two decades of clinical experience who is dedicated to serving patients in rural communities. As the CEO of VirtuCare, he is ensuring that patients have access to exceptional urology care in their rural communities to prevent: delay in diagnoses, patient leakage to urban markets, and erosion in the trust of rural healthcare facilities.

So Why Did I Start VirtuCare?

After 13 years of training in Chicago, Illinois, at Northwestern University, I decided to join a practice in rural Washington state. The community of Wenatchee welcomed me with open arms as I was introduced to life in rural America. Professionally, I quickly learned the challenges of practicing in this environment:

  • Patients had limited access and resources to seek timely medical care.
  • Physicians were covering multiple smaller hospitals while simultaneously trying to work in the clinic, the OR and the ER.
  • Hospital administrators had narrow profit margins, staffing shortages, and fewer resources to ensure care was being delivered at the highest level.

Ultimately, I transitioned to Nashville, Tennessee, but my heart was still in rural America. So I asked myself, “How can I still help?”. How can we deliver care in rural communities when most of my colleagues are moving to bigger cities? The answer was innovation.

In 2021, I created VirtuCare with a mission to deliver exceptional care in rural communities through an innovative care model that leveraged remote care and a growing workforce of remote physicians.

Now with VirtuCare…

Patients have access to exceptional care.

Physicians can live where they want but deliver care where they are needed.

Rural healthcare executives are building trust and revenue for their hospital.
